As the highly acclaimed Stamford All-School Musical Program enters its 18th year, it proudly presents Annie as its 2025 production. Annie is a beloved, high-energy Broadway classic filled with memorable characters, catchy songs, and a heartwarming message. Set during the Great Depression, the story follows a determined young orphan searching for the parents who left her years earlier at a New York City orphanage run by the strict and cantankerous Miss Hannigan. Annie’s world changes when she’s chosen to spend Christmas with wealthy businessman Oliver Warbucks, whose heart slowly softens as Annie brings hope, joy, and love into his life. This year’s production is especially notable: for the first time since 2020, the cast features performers as young as ten years old.
To learn more about the cast experience, I spoke with several performers who shared their excitement about bringing Annie to life. “If I could switch my role to Annie, I wouldn’t,” says Emily, a fifth grader at Davenport Ridge Elementary who plays Molly. “The show is really fun to be a part of because you learn abilities you didn’t know you had,” adds Sophia, a fifth grader at Westover Magnet who plays Gabriela. Anatolia, a sixth grader at TOR who plays Tessie, says, “Tessie is dramatic and whiny but kind at heart, and it shows on stage.”
High school performers are just as energized. “The people make the place,” says Kaitlyn, an 11th grader at AITE. Eli Donahue, who plays Oliver Warbucks, adds, “Annie is the best way to get in the holiday spirit.” Addie, a seventh grader at Sacred Heart Greenwich and this year’s Annie, shared, “She’s really hopeful and optimistic, and I feel like those qualities really reflect me.” Director Linda Duci praised the cast, saying, “Working with these young performers is always the best and shines a bright light into the future of musical theater.” And as one long-time participant put it, “Whoever doesn’t see this show is really missing out. I’ve been part of this program for four years, and my only regret is not joining sooner.”
Don’t miss the happiest, jolliest show of the season! Annie will be performed at Rippowam Middle School (381 High Ridge Road, Stamford) on December 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, and 14th. Tickets can be purchased online using the link here or at the door before showtime.
