With the spring season upon us and the end-of-year activities rolling in, it’s about time for the Northstar Playmakers Spring Musical. This year, the program presents a production of the beloved family classic, Seussical. For this production, you follow The Cat in the Hat (played by Paul Ferris, WHS 26) as he takes you throughout the wonderful world of Dr Seuss and meets such familiar faces as Horton the Elephant (Elijah Donahue, WHS 26), Mr. Mayor (James Kolman, AITE 26), Mrs. Mayor (Ava Sanchez WHS 26), and their son and main character Jojo (Poppy Sisko, KING 7th). A world no larger than a speck of dust gets cast across the Jungle of Nool, and the fearless and loyal Horton has to save the Whos’ dust with help from a bird with a one-feathered tail, named Gertrude (Addison Clear WHS 28). This dramatic and fun-filled musical is sure to be a hit for the whole family and a perfect outing for a spring day.
I, once again, have had the pleasure of interviewing some of our cast, and here is what they had to say when asked what this show means to our seniors. Charlotte Lupanaci (Featured Dancer, WHS 26) said this,“I think that it’s a full circle as Sussical was one of my first shows. All of the Dr. Seuss books remind me of my childhood and being a senior, and that chapter coming to a close, makes this show a good way to end my Stamford theater time”. Paul Ferris said,”This show has been an exciting experience for me because it has allowed our cast to reconnect with our imaginations while enabling us to pass down our love for theatre to a younger audience. I hope that Seussical will prove inspiring and educational to younger kids without looking down on them and while remaining entertaining for older viewers, in the spirit of Dr. Seuss”. You don’t want to miss the chance to see the most magical, fantastical, and Seussisiest show this side of the River Walloo.
