If you want Hot Oil pizza, a specific pizza style that features a spicy hot oil drizzle, you must go to Riko’s pizza or Colony Grill. Colony Grill has been a Stamford favorite for a long time, so I wanted to put that to the test. When I walked in, Colony Grill had a great atmosphere with a lot of cozy seating options. It looked like a little pub with the dim lights and ambiance. The workers brought the pizza fast and it was piping hot. When I tasted the pizza, I could not help but enjoy the slight kick of the oil. The crust was crispy and thin. While I enjoyed the spicy hit, I missed being able to taste the sweetness of the sauce. However, if I am looking for spice, Colony is the place.
Riko’s Pizza follows Colony Grill’s lead and also offers hot oil pizzas. When you go to Riko’s, you should expect a nice family friendly restaurant that has a chill vibe, it’s different from Colony. The workers were friendly, and my pizza came quickly. The pizza’s presentation was classic and the crust looked excellent. If I were just judging the crust and thinness, the slice would be ranked much higher, but I was disappointed with the sauce. The sauce blended with the cheese, so I could not really tell which is which. The sauce also did not have the flavor I was looking for. The oil residue was really strong for me, and it did not have the same spice as Colony.
My pick – Colony Grill is the clear winner to me!
